Putin mocks ‘undemocratic’ calls for second Brexit vote


The Russian president said he ‘understood’ Theresa May’s position on Brexit.

At a press conference in Moscow shown on Russian national television, the Russian president said he “understood” May’s position in “fighting for this Brexit,” according to the Guardian.
“The referendum was held,” he said. “What can she do? She has to fulfill the will of the people expressed in the referendum.”
Putin also offered his analysis of the democratic merits of holding a second national vote. “Was it not a referendum?” he said. “Someone disliked the result, so repeat it over and over? Is this democracy? What then would be the point of the referendum in the first place?”
