T IS 20 years since Tony Blair became prime minister of this country and yet he is still capable of causing jaws to drop with the sheer gall of what he is saying.
Italian MEP: Punishing the UK will be punishing the whole EU
Having opened our borders to a flood of immigration that no one ever voted for he now turns round to demand tough new immigration rules, while denying that he had anything to do with the chaos in the first place.
It is difficult to know if the ex-premier is capable of distinguishing the truth from what he clearly wishes to be reality but he should consider this.
In 2013 his henchman Lord Mandelson said, in these words, Labour “sent out search parties for immigrants”.
It was an utterly cynical move, in flagrant disregard of the country’s wishes, to achieve two short-term party political ends: to increase their own support in the expectation that the incomers would vote Labour and to be able to label the Tories racist if they objected.
If there was one outstanding reason that this country voted for Brexit it was because the majority of us did not want another minute of mass immigration.
Blair’s suddenly adopted new stance of course is an attempt to keep us in the EU after all. He should reflect that it is a direct result of his own antics that created the impetus for the decision to leave. And if he had a shred of decency or integrity we would never hear from him on this subject again.
