July 15, 2016 -- France has been on security alert since January 2015, hit by a string of terrorist attacks that have left 235 people dead and hundreds injured.
President Francois Hollande declared a state of emergency after a coordinated assault on Paris last November left 130 people dead and 350 others injured.
The order was due to end on July 26, after the Tour de France cycling race finishes. Hollande has now said he would be extending the state of emergency for a further three months.
