Andrew Neil delivers EPIC rant: ‘It’s OVER! Brexit is happening - Blair, Major all DONE!'

BBC’S Andrew Neil gave a damning verdict of the general election result, claiming that the result was a “truly transformative vote” that showed a re-alignment of British politics.

The BBC’s Andrew Neil brilliantly summed up tonight’s landslide election result for Boris Johnson, describing it as “incredibly significant”. The BBC broadcaster said that the country was “witnessing the passing of power to a new establishment” after Boris Johnson was returned to power with a resounding victory. Mr Johnson won a huge majority after the Conservatives swept aside Labour in its traditional Red Wall heartlands.

Speaking afterwards, the Prime Minister said it would give him a mandate to "get Brexit done" and take the UK out of the EU next month.

With just a handful of seats left to declare in the general election, the BBC forecasts a Tory majority of 78.
Neil told BBC News: “We have witnessed the passing of power from one establishmet to another. I think this election is incredibility significant.
“The centre-left and centre-right that have dominated this country for decades - John Major, Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, Michael Heseltine - it’s over, it’s gone now. Brexit is happening."

He continued: “The Conservative Party that now has its majority is very different from the previous Conservative Government.
“It’s less metropolitan, it’s less southern, it’s less bourgeoise, it’s more working class, it’s more northern, more small towns and cities.
“That’s a new establishment coming in here.
"Labour may have lost Mr Corbyn - but Corbynism still thinks it has a grip on that party. That is another establishment.

“So we move into a new power structure in this country.”
He claimed that Mr Johnson’s incredible victory was the “third truly transformative” elections in modern British history.
Neil said that the Conservative victory was on par with Clement Attlee’s victory in 1945 and Margaret Thatcher’s first election win.

Speaking at Conservative Campaign Headquarters afterwards, Mr Johnson said that his party had created “an earthquake”.
He said: “We must understand now what an earthquake we have created. The way in which we have changed the political map of this country.
“We have to grapple with the consequences of that, we have to change our own party to rise to the level of events.”
Jeremy Corbyn said Labour had a "very disappointing night" and he would not fight a future election.
